![]() ![]() ![]() Out of all 5 games defiance is the one i had the most fun with, and really.Soul Reaver wasn't originally developed as a sequel to Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Amy Hennig has said. i would instantly say go with soul reaver, then soul reaver 2 blood omen 2, then defiance. But, if I want to see the series at its very best, what game should I play then? BTW, apart from story, music, etc I value things like fun mechanics in computer games, and annoying things like a constantly draining supply of blood is generally not something winning me over. So no, I'm not going to play through all games from start to finish (bought the other games in the series during this summer sale on GoG and I have lots of other fun games waiting to be played too, books to read and actual work to do as well.). Hansappel: I've played some Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain 1, and it got a bit bothersome after a while (the mechanics got annoying, staying fed on blood started to feel more than a hassle than a joy, etc). I am quite partial to these games so I recommend you complete all in the order I mentioned above. Blood Omen 2: this is a whole new breed of game different combat mechanics graphics similar to Soul Reaver 2 you can use all sorts of melee weapons you can get different spells/abilities it introduces the concept of stealth and steath kills :D whereas in the other titles you would just rush into battle and slice'n'dice everyone around you the game level design is a blend of Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2(dark and cool)Īll games require constant blood/soul feeding but this isn't a chore and it has been refined in Defiance where you can feed off several victims at the same time. Blood Omen: it has its own charm and it's a must play if you want to fully understand the complex story the mechanics might not seem all that great but I've enjoyed it as much as the other titles Defiance: vastly improved combat mechanics and graphics very high paced you get to play with both Raziel and Kain, each having its own set of abilities and weapon combos you will only be able to use the reaver unlike the previous 2 games in which you could pick-up all sorts of other melee weapons more reaver upgrades that are permanent and can be switched at any time in order to fit a specific situation(when charged, each type of reaver can cast a spell) Soul Reaver 2: very good graphics the game level design is very, very good combat mechanics are about the same as its predecessor same type of puzzles as before the wraith blade can now be upgraded and it is required in order to progress through the game (in Soul Reaver the blade upgrades were optional and hard to find) Soul Reaver is very slow paced and you get the wraith blade late in the game it has a lot of interesting puzzles(probably the most puzzle oriented in the series) the world is huge and not exactly linear(some cool hidden areas which you can use to gather glyphs - new powers) the atmosphere is very grim/gothic/dark and, in my opinion, the best in the series graphics have aged wonderfully If you just want to play a few hours into each just to get a feel of the gameplay, level design and other mechanics, here is some info: ![]() So, if you really want to understand everything you should play through all the games in this order: Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2, Legacy of Kain: Defiance. The Legacy Of Kain series is widely loved by its story which is in my opinion the best there is in all the gaming world. ![]()
